Special Solicitation for Victims of Hurricane Sandy

U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director John Berry has given the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies the authority to conduct special solicitations on behalf of the victims of Hurricane Sandy.  The memorandum and FAQ’s, available at http://chcoc.gov/transmittals/TransmittalDetails.aspx?TransmittalID=5121, specify that such solicitations are not part of the Combined Federal Campaign and must conclude by November 21, 2012.  It also requests that Agencies conducting solicitations remind Federal employees that they may provide long-term support for the regions affected by this disaster by making contributions through the CFC.

The Heartland CFC has prepared a special edition of the CFC Connection newsletter.  Please share this with the employees in your agency. This will help guide them to the non-profits which would be helping with the disaster relief and information on the many other charitable options which are available to them through the Heartland CFC campaign this year.  The goal is to stretch our donors' dollars as far as possible, and the CFC allows us to do that

Vol. 1 Issue 4

The power of YOU is stronger than the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy!
The devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy are being met with the awesome force of relief provided from national and Heartland CFC local charities. Local charities have already answered the call for relief to people on the Eastern Seaboard who have been left without food, shelter, transportation and power. All of these charities, along with the rest of the charities in the Heartland CFC catalog, need YOUR support now and in the coming months so they can afford to provide quality services and support.

Giving through the CFC makes the most of your contribution Giving through the CFC means all of your contributions, except for the roughly 5% CFC overhead cost, will go to direct services charities provide. That is right: Giving through the CFC means your contribution will not go toward any of the administrative costs percentages shown in the catalogue for approved charities. When you designate a charity through the CFC, they become eligible to receive undesignated funds in addition to your donation.
If you have already contributed to this year’s campaign, you can: Complete an additional pledge card (available on the heartlandcfc.org website) Update your original pledge using Employee Express Add a pledge using CFC Nexus Make a cash donation
